Through an exclusive for the American fashion magazine, Harper's Bazaar, Winona Ryder revealed that she went through a lot of "pain" after her breakup with Johnny Depp in 1993, which is why the actress went to therapy for a while.

Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder met at a movie premiere in New York City in 1989 and got engaged the following year.

The couple stayed together for four years. At the height of their romance, the actor got the famous "Winona Forever" tattoo, which ended up changing to "Wino Forever" after their breakup, which left the Stranger Things actress submerged in a deep depression.

Although the actress did not go into details, she revealed that she had to seek help from a professional therapist due to the chaos she felt in her life.

“It was like 'Girl, Interrupted' in real life. I remember Michelle [Michelle Pfeiffer] telling me, 'This is going to happen.' But I couldn't hear it. I have never talked about it. There is a part of me that is very private. I have a place in my heart for those days. But for someone younger who grew up with social media, it's hard to describe," Winona revealed, adding that eventually, with the help of "an amazing therapist," she was able to heal.

The healing process took place thanks to a technique in which she was kind to a younger version of herself: “I remember, I was playing this character who ends up being tortured in a Chilean prison [The House of the Spirits]. She looked at these fake bruises and cuts on my face and struggled to see me as a girl. 'Would you be treating this girl how you are treating yourself?' I remember looking at myself and saying, 'This is what I'm doing to myself on the inside. She just wasn't taking care of me,' ” she finished.

Currently, Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder have a good friendly relationship, in fact, the actress showed her support after the accusations of domestic violence made by Amber Heard.
