Tony Sirico, the American actor known for The Sopranos, has died age of 79

The American actor Tony Sirico, BEST KNOWN for his role in the mafia series The Sopranos, has died. The actor, real name Gennaro Anthony Sirico, was 79 years old when he died.

The American actor Tony Sirico, BEST KNOWN for his role in the mafia series The Sopranos, has died. The actor, real name Gennaro Anthony Sirico, was 79 years old when he died.

In addition to his family, Sirico's death has been told by former Soprano's colleague Michael Imperioli.

- I regret to say that my good friend, colleague, and partner in crime, the great Tony Sirico, has passed away today, Imperioli said on Instagram on Friday.

Imperioli described the late actor as not only tough but also loyal and big-hearted.

BORN IN 1942 IN BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, Sirico was arrested several times in his youth. He eventually became interested in acting in prison after seeing a group of ex-prisoners perform.

Before appearing in HBO's hit series, Sirico had appeared for decades in smaller gangster roles both on television and in films.

He appeared in the series Miami Vice and Kojak, as well as in the mafia films Goodfellas ( Mafiaveljet ) and Mickey Blue Eyes ( Sinisilmä-Mickey ). In addition, Sirico played the lead role in Finnish director Juha Wuolijoki 's 2014 film Zarra's Law.

In The Sopranos, which followed a mafia family operating in New Jersey, Sirico got the role in his fifties. He played Paulie “Walnuts” Gualtieri in the series.
