Basketball player Koponen has signed a comprehensive agreement with Pallacanestro Reggiana, who plays Serie A, for the rest of the season, the Basketball Association informs.
Petteri Koponen, 32, returns to Italy. According to the Basketball Federation, the new contract for Serie A player Pallacanestro Reggiana covers the rest of the season. The team is currently in Serie A with a draw of 6-8.
The Finn still had a contract for the last season with the German team Bayern München in the autumn, but the renewed team left for this club team season without aback.
According to Koponen, the old agreement and the corona situation caused their difficulties in concluding a new deal, but now familiar circles call in Italy. From 2008 to 2012, Koponen represented Virtus Bologna in the Italian Serie A.
There is still no certainty about the actual return to the playing field.
– I haven’t had time to do 5-5 workouts with the team yet. The idea would be to train properly now and gradually start your return to everyday life. Reggiana will be played in the playoffs. At the end of January, it will be the turn of the FIBA Europe Cup group stage “bubble”. If Cremona loses to Milan, we will continue to be in the Italian cup, Koponen says in a press release.
– It was unique to be in the middle of a gaming career at home with my family for half a year, but it’s also nice to get back to practice my profession and still be in Italy, where it all started.
