One of the most influential duos in musical history says goodbye. After 28 years of experience, Daft Punk announces their separation through a video.
One more era is ending. Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter say goodbye to Daft Punk after 28 years of artistic career. The French duo made the news known through an eight-minute video posted on their official YouTube account.
This video runs under the name of ‘ Epilogue’ and was taken from his 2006 film ‘ Electroma ‘. Without saying more, or giving explanations, the video shows Guy-Manuel moving away towards the horizon after destroying Thomas Bangalter. Later, the legend ‘1993 – 2021’ appears, thus revealing their separation.
Why is Daft Punk disbanded?
Minutes after the video was uploaded to YouTube, various media confirmed the separation. In fact, Pitchfork contacted Kathryn Frazier, the duo’s publicist, to directly question whether Daft Punk had ceased to exist, to which she simply nodded.
At the moment, no explanation has been given about this decision that, without a doubt, has taken by surprise not only the followers of the French duo, but also music lovers in general.
Daft Punk’s trajectory
1993 was the year that Daft Punk was born. The duo began to gain recognition in their native France, and then worldwide, when they released their first studio album, Homework , which achieved enormous success, as singles such as Around The World and Da Funk were released from it.
Later, in 2001, they released Discovery, a record that consolidated them as one of the most influential and iconic groups in the history of music . Since then, every musical work they put out ended up becoming a success.
After Discovery , and already positioned as a great musical duo, followed the release of Human After All in 2005 and Random Access Memories in 2013.
During their musical career they managed to collaborate with great figures in the industry, such as Giorgio Moroder, Pharrell Williams, Julian Casablancas, and Kanye West , just to mention a few. Also, his music appears in various movies like Tron: Legacy, Boyhood, Climax, and more.
They also have six Grammys, two Billboard Awards and two World Music Awards, among other awards. Over a 28-year career they have sold more than 12 million albums and more than 17 million singles.
