A new high Maglev train with a prototype that can reach speeds of 620 km/h has been unveiled in China. The power source for the train is high-temperature superconducting (HTS), which gives the impression that it is floating along the magnetic rails.

On January 13, the journalists were given a glimpse of the sleek 21-meter (69-foot) prototype in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. As per state-run Xinhua News, university experts also built 165 meters of the track to show how the train will seem and operate while in motion.

According to Professor He Chuan, vice chancellor of Southwest Jiaotong University, who researched the prototype, the train might be "active" in three to ten years.

"Sichuan has rich rare earth resources, which is particularly advantageous to our building of permanent magnet tracks, boosting the faster growth of tests," he continued.

The Shanghai maglev, the world's fastest commercially functioning train, and the world's biggest super high rail network, which spans more than 37,000 kilometers, are both found in China. It started running in 2003 and was the first super-high Maglev train in the nation. The train connects Longyang Road in the eastern part of Shanghai with Shanghai Pudong Airport with a peak speed of 431 kph.

China has indeed been eager to undertake further infrastructure upgrades before the Beijing-hosted 2022 Winter Olympics.

Around this period last year, China revealed a brand-new 174-kilometer high-speed railway line that would connect Beijing with Zhangjiakou, the city that would host the 2022 Winter Olympics, and would reduce the distance's journey time from 3 hours to only 47 minutes.

The nation unveiled a bullet train earlier this month that was made expressly to resist subzero conditions. When the temperature is as low as -40 degrees Celsius, the CR400AF-G train may move at up to 350 km/h.

It will travel between Harbin, which is so frigid that it holds an annual snow and ice festival, Shenyang, and Beijing.
